Industrial Design T-Minus Presentations

RIT’s Industrial Design programs (BFA and MFA) are teaming up with Rochester Refugee Sewing and Repair (RRSR), which provides refugees in Rochester skills training and paid work in industrial sewing, for their annual T-Minus workshop.During the first week of each spring semester, all BFA and MFA students are split into teams and challenged to solve design problems faced by an industry partner. This year, in support of social and sustainable entrepreneurship locally, students are creating new products that RRSR could make. The final public presentations of the teams’ concepts are from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. (with a half hour lunch at 12:15) on Saturday, Jan. 18, in University Gallery. Awards are set to be given out at 4 p.m. A display of the work will remain on view in University Gallery through Monday, Jan. 20.Using more than 1,000 pounds of clothing donated by Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, student groups are focusing on one of three areas for their designs: home goods, pet products and accessories for Kitimaya, RRSR’s unique line of upcycled scrunchies.RRSR, started by Michael Kelly ’17 MFA (Industrial Design), is a project of nonprofit organization Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services.
