John has led technology development for the Department of Defense and some of the country’s most innovative small businesses. He deployed cellular tech in Afghanistan, learned valuable lessons in government contracting, and has grown a company, APX Labs, from 2 to 50+ employees in two years as co-founder and chief technology officer. His latest venture is STEMBoard, a career-placement community for students and entry-level tech pros. John will share what he has learned and the challenges he has faced so far.

Bio: John Martellaro (KGCOE CompE ’08) – STEMBoard
John is a Serial Disruptor credited with several innovative technologies, from wearable biometrics with augmented reality, to deploying the first tactical cellular on battlefield for the US government. Recruited at age 19 by the Dept. of Defense, he was a SME and worked with high performance computing and various high-speed networking initiatives focused on data protection and processing. He led Special Projects at Battlefield Telecommunication Systems, which led to co-founding APX Labs (enterprise augmented reality). His new endeavor, STEMBoard, employs 10 people and connects mentors, companies, and government agencies in STEM. John has a Bachelors and Masters in CompE from RIT.
