Event Name: Rennes-Rochester Sister Cities - Sustainability

Description: Mr Jean-Louis MERRIEN, Vice-President in Charge of Waste Disposal Issues / Greater Rennes Metropolitan Area will be presenting Rennes Metropolitanís strategies for sustainable development through the example of waste reducing.

This presentation is in connection with the Rennes-Rochester Sister Cities Committee (RRSCC). A delegation from Rennes, France, comprised of Rennes city officials as well as non-government volunteers of many backgrounds, will be visiting Rochester, NY between May 8th and May 14th to celebrate the citiesí 55 years of partnership via Sister Cities International. This sister cities partnership is one of the longest-running in the US; it has promoted and supported cultural, educational, sport, and economic connections between the people of Rennes and Rochester for more than half a century and is going strong today with many ongoing annual exchanges at area high school and universities in addition to events such as the Breton Circle Celtique (traditional musicians and dancers from Brittany) visiting Rochester or the US WWII Veterans visit to Rennes.

The presentation at RIT is a great opportunity for the city leaders from Rennes to share their strategies for sustainable development and share ideas with ecological innovators and advocates in the Rochester area - namely the RIT community and the Greentopia organizers. The hope is that members of the Rochester community can attend, learn, share, and tie these discussions to future events in town such as Ecofest.
