An evening with Mark A. Shelly, M.D., the Chief of Infectious Disease of Highland Hospital and the Medical Director of Passport Health in Rochester.Dr. Shelly has extensive experience serving in multiple lower-resource nations including the Democractic Republic of Congo, Haiti and others.Dr. Shelly will share insights and lead discussions regarding the best practices and pitfalls to avoid when participating in short-term medical missions.  We will learn that many people with good intentions have caused significant harm due to a lack of a proper perspective on how to approach humanitarian international medical work. The best short-term medical missions will focus on empowerment of the indigenous people and local asset-based development.
