Brown Bag Faculty Lecture: Joshua Rashaad McFadden

Add some creativity and thoughtful conversation to your lunch break by attending the RIT College of Art and Design Brown Bag Faculty Lecture Series. It features weekly midday presentations by faculty from the college's five schools throughout the 2020 spring semester. The talks, held on Wednesdays, cover a wide variety of subject matter and provide an insightful look at the creative practice of renowned faculty in the college.Joshua Rashaad McFadden, assistant professor in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences, will deliver a talk from noon to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in William Harris Conference Room (Gannett Hall, 2155). McFadden, known for his portraiture, explores the use of archival material within his work, which primarily focuses on African American male identity, masculinity and notions of the father figure. His work has been published in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, TIME, Slate magazine, Travel + Leisure magazine and Smithsonian magazine.He was named one of the top emerging talents in the world by LensCulture and won a first place International Photography Award (IPA) for "After Selma," a series that conveys McFadden's response to numerous incidents of police brutality. McFadden has received several other honors, including being recognized as one of TIME's "American Voices in 2017 and being given the Duke University Archive of Documentary Arts Collection Award for Documentarians of Color.
