Rock Climbing Legend, Angie Payne, Visits RIT

“How did a typical Midwestern girl and devoted boulderer end up in the remote fjords of Greenland and the deep jungle of Ua Pou? This show attempts to answer that question by touching on my upbringing, my journey through climbing, and a few of the personal battles that have captured my attention and energy along the way.” Come hear rock climbing legend, Angie Payne, discuss her passion as she shares her story in this limited-capacity slideshow presentation. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Angela Payne began climbing indoors at the age of eleven. Upon moving to Boulder in 2003 to attend the University of Colorado, Payne employed her plastic pulling skills to find success in the world of competition climbing. Her success isn’t just limited to the indoor realm — Payne has numerous notable outdoor ascents under her belt. Between 2004 and 2013, Payne completed first female ascents of 30 boulder problems V9-V12. In 2010, Payne completed The Automator and became the first woman in the world to climb a confirmed V13. Payne currently resides in Boulder, Colorado.
