Rochester Orienteering Club Festival

The Rochester Orienteering Club will host a Sprint Festival on Wednesday, July 12th, 2017 at RIT. Participants will be given maps of the campus with key locations noted. They must “punch in” at each of those locations in turn, and race to the finish. All ages and skill levels are welcome. This event will consist of multiple "Sprint" courses. An orienteering sprint course features shorter distances, winds around campus buildings, and requires quick decisions. The quality of the map provided allows competitors to quickly rank alternate paths - is it better to go around the building, through the courtyard, or use the narrow gap between buildings. Those able to run fast while making good choices will take home the win. This event features a mass start at 6:15. Beginners will be able to start separately between 6:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.. All participants must finish by 7:45 P.M.. The event will include courses for beginners through experts of lengths 1.7km to 8km.Preregistration through a link on the http://roc.us.orienteering.org web site is encouraged but not required. Groups and families welcome. Cost: $10 per entry, discounted for beginner courses, online entry, and club members (groups count as 1 entry). Recommended equipment: A compass would be helpful, and the club has some to loan if needed. Given the potential for inclement weather, please be aware that this event will take place rain or shine.
