Gosnell Lecture Series

The College of Liberal ArtsGosnell Lecture Seriespresents Dr. David M. DriesenUniversity ProfessorCollege of LawSyracuse University Wednesday, September 20thTime: 3:00 – 4:00 pmPlace: Eastman Hall01-2000 Neoliberal Climate PolicyNeoliberalism—a philosophy claiming that giving markets free reign constitutes good policy—has had a profound influence on climate policy (and environmental policy generally). Most proponents of this philosophy recognize that markets do little to constrain pollution and support some kind of government intervention. But they tend to support policies that use market-based ideas as a model for environmental policy, advocating use of cost-benefit analysis to establish greenhouse gas reduction goals and emissions trading as a major means of meeting those goals. This talk will discuss these ideas and their influence on environmental policy.Interpreters provided upon request subject to availability. Please make your request TODAY by going to the following website myAccess.rit.edu.
