FOSS@MAGIC: FOSS in Civic Coding in Fed Gov with the Virtual Student Federal Service

Join RIT’s FOSS@MAGIC program for our last FOSS@MAGIC Talk of the year as we’re visited by U.S. Department of State’s Bridget Roddy and Asha Beh to talk about Civic Hacking at the Federal level along with information on the Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) and the new Foreign Affairs IT Fellowship (FAIT). VSFS is the largest digital/remote internship program in the world. Every year 37+ U.S. government federal agencies offer opportunities to 1,300+ U.S. citizen university students to do real work and make a real difference on a global scale. NASA, CIA, USAID, Smithsonian, and many other teams need technical, design, research, language, etc. skills from enthusiastic students.  If you're pursuing an IT-related degree and interested in using technology solutions for the business of diplomacy, particularly if you are a member of an underrepresented group, the Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship (FAIT) could be your path to a rewarding career. This fellowship offers you a truly unique opportunity, including financial support, mentoring and professional development, as well as guaranteed employment in the U.S. Foreign Service. Registration for the event is free but registering lets us know how much food to order. Register at: http://bit.ly/FOSSTalkVSFS Who: Open to the public (not just RIT Students) just be sure to RSVP.When: Wednesday, April 11th. 4:30pm-6pm.Where: RIT Center for Media, Arts, Games, Interaction, and Creativity (MAGIC).
