Attica: Victims and Consequences

The Attica prison uprising and retaking in September 1971 continues to reverberate in contemporary criminal justice, politics, and policy. This presentation and discussion will feature the widow, Gwen Edland, and daughter, Gretchen Perry, of medical examiner John Edland. They will recount the toll the State’s efforts to obscure the truth about the retaking of Attica took on their family. Mike Smith, a former guard and one of the hostages injured in the retaking of the prison will also discuss his experience and frustration with the State’s response in the aftermath of the uprising. Interpreters available upon request subject to availabilityPlease make your request TODAY by going to www.myAccess.rit.edu
